Matt Umanov Guitars One of the biggest, and what many folks consider to be the bestest, Gibson flattops ever was their original Jumbo of 1934. Its body contour and size were the precursors. A truly superb, hand-built classical guitar from the master luthiers at Yamaha. A top professional-grade instrument, with gorgeous straight-grained, solid Madagascar rosewood back and sides and a super-finely-grained solid spruce.

Wes! Wes Montgomery! Was there ever a more original, more innovative, more important jazz guitar player, ever?

Repairing and restoring top-grade fretted instruments is where I started out in the early 1960s in Greenwich Village, several years before opening my store here. It began with fixing everything I could find as a little kid, gaining tool skills and woodworking and machine skills along the way, and knowledge of processing all kinds of natural materials (wood, metal, plastics, glass and more) for manufacturing processes.

Complete bridge, including aluminum base with threaded posts and height-adjustment wheels. Typical Seidel-Style six-petal flowers stamped into all four circular corners of the plate. If you've got a 19th-century Martin with its original tuners missing these might be just the set for you. An absolutely beautiful, mid-19th century complete set of tuners for a slotted-peghead guitar.

Restorations and repairs are where we started, in the early 1960s, and structural integrity and proper playability are still where we start with every instrument we offer for sale.
Priceless

From 1969 through 1977, the location of our very first store was at 35 Bedford St., right here in the West Village and not more than three blocks from where we are now, but on a tiny backwater street; you had to know about us to find us, and plenty of people did, from local beginning players to working pros, to Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Yul Brynner, Steve Martin, and plenty more.
