Our founder, Jade Schulz, studied violin repair at Red Wing State College under Lisbeth Nelson-Butler before completing a seven-year apprenticeship with Carl Becker & Son. Viola Rentals

Very honest and knowledgeable man! I am a graduate student at SDSU and have seen a lot of luthiers. Just took my violin and he adjusted my sound post with no charge! The violin sounds 10 times better! Great man! Highly recommend!

Jade's atelier is cozy and welcoming, tucked away on a La Jolla alleyway while also accessible via Herschel Ave. Jade's demeanor is welcoming and professional. I was lucky enough to meet his son, friend Brent, and dog Cooper while I was there. Jade is kindhearted and knowledgeable, willing to share his expertise as much or as little according to the interest of his customers. I really enjoyed my visit and learned so much about my cello and cellos in general in the short time I was there.
And he worked magic with my cello, interpreting the description about what was bothering me about its sound so that after he finished with it the sound improved dramatically, much better than I had hoped! I ended up purchasing a bow from him as well. I would recommend Jade as a luthier and source for string musicians' needs.

I brought a 16 year old violin in to have a few cracks repairs, the neck replaced, and an overall clean and polish. I also bought a brand new, really nice bow! The service was perfect, the repair work was done beautifully and quickly, and Cooper the puppy was delightful to play with! I will be using Jade for all of my violin needs in the future, including getting private lessons!

If the History Channel produced a show about a violin shop like they do with cars in Fast and Loud, or the Discovery Channel does with motorcycles in American Chopper, Jade Schulz would be the star of the show. His shop lacks the crazy drama that makes the above mentioned shows popular, but Jade is fascinating, he knows his violins and he can keep you captivated with his work. Jade is a true artisan; a luthier in it for the love of the instrument!

Amazing! Brought my son's future violin in for repair and Jade was very kind, gracious, and knowledgeable. I will definitely be back to upgrade my son's violin, and I highly recommend him for instruments and for all of your string repair needs.

Jade takes such good care for his customers. Although I came in to repair two bows, he highly suggested that one of them is not worth repairing due to its decline in quality. Instead, he lended me another bow for free trial and see if I liked it before purchasing. When pickup was ready after one of the bows was repaired, he applied rosin on my bow. He also tuned the pegs and readjusted my bridge free of charge. I will definitely come back again for future repairs. Thank you Jade!

Jade is very knowledgeable and helpful. He spent almost 45 minutes convincing me not to spend money with him. I'll definitely be coming back here for any of my violin or cello repairs or purchases.
