Please enjoy a short 45th anniversary message from Richard Hoover and his luthiers at Santa Cruz Guitar Company. Luthiers are a unique breed of human being: philosopher-craftspeople who are sensitive to and highly knowledgeable in the intricacies of grain, color, shape, thickness, bracing and, above all, tone.

Richard Hoover is, to me, in the top echelon of this rarefied world, acutely aware of the origins, history and sustainability of the various woods he works with. He gleans and scavenges them from abandoned railroad tunnels, sunken logs, long-forgotten furniture and ancient, prehistoric boards dug up from the depths of the tundra.

Below are the standard specifications for this particular model. There are also many custom options available to add to this model for no additional charge. Multi-instrumentalist and world music virtuoso Bob Brozman was certainly qualified to design a guitar capable of showcasing a myriad of styles.
Below are most of the options available on any Santa Cruz Guitar Company instrument. Many of these options are available within the cost of our models, at no additional charge. As the sound board of the entire instrument, choosing the correct top wood for your guitar is crucial to achieving your desired tone and EQ.
Every one of our models comes with a long list of available options that can be modified on the guitar for no extra cost. This includes upgraded tonewoods like Adirondack & European Spruce, Adirondack bracing with hot hide glue, neck modifications, bindings, appointments, sunbursts, inlays and more, allowing us to build for each individual customer, and deliver their required tonal qualities, playability needs and personal aesthetics.
When it comes to strings, it's all about tension. While gauge is simply the measurement of the string's diameter, the tension of a string determines its relative volume to the other strings (EQ). String tension is determined by its core to wrap ratio, which can vary greatly among manufacturers. This can create multi-pound differences between brands and an illogical EQ within any given set.

We took the chance by arriving just before closure hoping to peek into the factory. We were greeted by the friendliest staff who took our email and contacted us about a tour of the factory the next day. We were lucky enough to have a tour with Richard himself of the entire company and saw all the stages of the guitar making process. Some of the friendliest, kindest and humblest people I've met. Thanks so much for a wonderful tour! Highly recommended.

Apart from the guitars themselves (and each one is unique, sounds and plays great), going on a tour of the shop is a great thing to do. You'll see the attention and detail that is put into every instrument and how they do things differently. If you don't already have a Santa Cruz guitar, you'll be putting aside in a new piggy bank to start saving for one once you see their operation.

Absolutely my favorite guitars - their sound is consistently rich and smoky, and they play beautifully well. Richard Hoover has set an amazing example and his staff live up to it daily, as shown in the amazing instruments shipping weekly.
