Robert Luyben, began offering his ligatures in 1965 as a sideline to his thriving music store. Luyben, who died in 1993, had studied with Daniel Bonade and was a clarinetist with the U.S. Navy Band. He turned down several job offers playing in New York to open a small teaching studio and repair shop in his hometown.

Fantastic place to find any imaginable piece of music! Annette is only selling sheet music now. Call, don't order online, for best service. She has a huge collection where people order from all over the world and her prices are the same as any online business. If she doesn't have something she will find it for you. She has found pieces I thought were unavailable. She is incredibly knowledgeable.

I wish the owner would fix the driveway for his customers. It would encourage me to go there more often. Soon there won't be a need for a music store as everything is changing to online including lessons.

Called to order a piece of sheet music. Was greeted in friendly manner and transferred to appropriate department. Gentleman answered promptly, quickly confirmed availability of the piece, and courteously took my mailing & billing information. I received the music in good condition - no bends, folds or tears - within the week. Good customer service, will order from again.

This is the place to go for sheet music. Very knowledgeable and helpful. Know that most of the piano music is behind the desk, so best to have an idea of what you are looking for before going. They were extremely helpful in making suggestions and I got exactly what I needed. :

This is the kind of music store we used to have in my town. And I've been looking for one like it for so long! I got there right before close but i could have spent hours just going through the stacks! They have music for all levels and all occasions. Instructional, easy piano, classics, classical, jazz, easy listening, oldies, pop. Just everything i could have wanted! Highly recommend! And I'll definitely be back there next time I'm in KC! Thank you Luyben music!

There are few stores left like Luyben Music in the US. A place loaded with sheet music and music knowledge. Annette Luyben and Rich Coble have a long history in the music scene of Kansas City and and cheerful and ready to help. If there is a piece of music you are looking for this is the place to go.

The parking is in the rear of the building and the drive back ghere is pretty rough. Then, the doorway to the place is on the side of the building.which means you walk on that rough driveway. Once inside its a tiny little place with very little to offer. The proprietor wasn't rude, but he was condescending. I won't go bsck.

The helpful and knowledgeable staff helped us find piano sheet music versions of current popular songs. Some were purchased, downloaded and printed for us when compilation books couldn't be found!

The best print music shop for hundreds of miles. The staff is knowledgeable about all kinds of music and educational materials. I've been going there for more than forty years.

Walked in to ask about getting my violin tuned and ask about a new bow. The guy behind the counter (late 20s/early 30s) couldn't be bothered with me (and I was the only one in the store); his girlfriend (or maybe she worked there too, although she was as disinterested as he was); after a cursory look at my violin he called for someone from the back to assist; an older woman looked at it and said it would be about $150.00. and her attitude was as awful as the guy's behind the counter.

Clearly they didn't need, nor want, my business. Took it to KC STRINGS and was treated like respectfully, cheerfully, knowledgably, and like a customer should be treated. KC Strings charged me a FRACTION of what Luyben wanted to charge me. while Luyben's may be more convenient, I'll NEVER go back to Luyben's - I'll ONLY GO TO KC STRINGS!

Best place around for sheet music of any sort. If they don't have it they'll order it. Extremely knowledgeable and helpful staff. They do a great job recommending and for kids they have been excellent at matching music to the kid's playing level.

I used to go to this store all the time when I was young, to buy clarinet music. It was a treat getting my mom to drive into the city. I loved it. Here's why Buy Local isn't always reasonable or feasable: Recently, I went in to buy a few clarinet reeds while I waited for my online order to come in. I paid a whopping 5 dollars for THREE, single clarinet reeds. That's right, three reeds.

Holy cow. I'm SO grateful for the wonderful online businesses such as Muncy Music and Weiner Music, who sell a box of vandoren V12's for $24.99. FYI, that equals about $2.50 per reed. Luyben sells a box for 38.50- so, 3.85 per reed if you buy the whole box. So, it's a nice punishment for those who don't need or want to buy a whole box.

I really feel for any students who are unwittingly sent to this store to purchase reeds for school. I won't be back to Luyben, not even if I'm desperate. What a sad disappointment. And we wonder why school kids parents think they can't afford for their child to learn an instrument.

Excellent and incredibly knowledgeable staff! I was in a panic looking for Kazoo's for a theatre show. This place saved my behind. Having a box full of kazoo's on hand is a sure sign that they probably have exactly what you're looking for.

Immediately when we entered the door the staff greeted us and asked if we needed any assistance. Easily the best costumer service experience I've had in years. Luyben Music has the largest and most outstanding selection of sheet music in the city. I would highly recommend shopping here for you sheet music needs.

Packed with sheet music. I was a little overwhelmed by how much, but they had the music I was looking for, and then some. They were kind to offer to help, but weren't pushy. It would be easy to get claustrophobic in here, but I doubt there are that many days where there are crowds for that to happen.

The perfect Valentine's Day gift.sheet music! We've recently acquired a piano and as we both play, we've been dying to get our hands on something other than "Theme from Ice Castles" and "Wind Beneath My Wings." I grew up spending all my babysitting money on sheet music for some time so I get excited when I get the chance to be in a music store. Luyben's is not super organized but the employees definitely know where EVERYTHING is.

They found everything I asked for but were not into conversation at all and I was the only one in the store. I even heard them commenting on my selections and I tried to interject; which was met by blank stares. I would like another chance to try out this store again as it seems to be the closest place to grab piano music.

I live in CA and ordered some clarinet music from Luyben, nice staff and easy process. Music arrived very quickly, cheap and fast - it can't get any better. I would prefer if they had online ordering though.
