Lessons Recent studies document the many benefits of a music education. Learning to play an instrument increases a child's confidence, coordination, concentration and self-discipline. Making music "exercises" the whole brain and mind, contributing to increased performance in math, science and reading.

And making music is no less important for adults!

It's never too late to begin to enjoy making music! The joy of music belongs not just to the great symphony orchestras or to musicologists - it belongs to everyone! Making music purely for the joy of hearing sounds that delight you is one of the most powerful forms of healing and self-expression. Learning to play an instrument can provide you with a great new hobby that has the potential to heal the body, soothe the mind, and minister to the soul.

I don't normally post reviews but after a couple of weeks I'm still so upset by the service we received at Lane Music and Pook specifically. Let me first start off my saying that we had a great buying experience with Lane. Everyone was very courteous and knowledgeable. However, roughly 2 years after our purchase my husband's company relocated us from Memphis to Birmingham.

We spoke to Pook who said due to the short distance it wouldn't be a problem to ship the piano and we just needed to call when we were ready. The delivery charge would be $400. This is where the problems started. On May 2nd, we called to let her know that we had finally closed on the house and we were ready for shipment. We had spoken to her a couple of times before just to let her know we were getting close.

She then informed us, that since it was a single shipment the cost would be $800 not the $400 she had originally said. The lower price was only if multiple pianos were being delivered or we "piggybacked" on another shipment. But, she informed us if we waited until the end of the month she would get us on a shipment going to Atlanta. Although not ideal, we said sure, not willing to pay double the price for our old piano.

We called at the end of May to check on the status to be informed Pook was "out" and the only one who dealt with shipments. Another week passed and no response. In early June we called and finally got through to Pook who informed us the order to Atlanta had been delayed and would be late June. So, again we waited. We called a couple of times to check on the status and she said she would let us know if anything changed. Finally, it was early July with no piano.

We called and spoke to Pook who let us know while she was away (again) our piano had not made the Atlanta shipment. To get the Piano it would be $800. Of course, we were furious that she would even suggest that for a mistake that she and Lane Music had made. We felt we had been very understanding and patient but enough was enough. After a lot of back and forth she finally agreed to ship for $400.

Due to issues with other deliveries (yes, after all that, they ended up dropping other pianos off) they delivered to our house at 10pm at night. While our family was sleeping. I can tell you, that I don't know anyone in their right mind feels comfortable having strange men in their house so late at night. When we called Pook to discuss how unorthodox and uncomfortable that made me, she said that it was done and there would be no discount.

I called to try and speak to the store manager but just got Pook. I later found out it's someone named Scott. We left several messages with him with no response. Long story, but think twice before you use lane music. Pook is a literal nightmare and the customer service is atrocious. She never, not once, reach out to us. So Beware before you shop here is all I can say!

Lane Music has been amazing. My husband went there and asked about piano teachers and pianos. They are able to recommend instructors for all types of instruments. They have a large selection of instruments and accessories. They led my husband to the best piano for him. I have taken my son in for piano lessons. I always arrive early everywhere I go.

My son played with different items in the store. The owners enjoy people trying things to see what they really like and what feels right to the customer. They really do encourage the love of music. They have all kinds of sevices. I always enjoy going in there because the staff is very helpful. I know I will enjoy taking my daughter for piano lessons before too long. The reasonable prices, friendly staff, and large selection of instruments and accessories is definitely what will keep my family returning.

My first stop in the store I quit playing music for a Few years but last September when I started again I got really serious about it. I took lessons with j.t. page several years ago but my first recent stop in the store was to look at digital pianos. Next thing you know Scott and Chris had me playing their very best and most expensive pianos in the store. I've been playing keyboards all my life and a piano here and there but didn't realize how incredible it is to play a really well made piano.

I felt like I shouldn't touch anything I can't pay for but Scott and Chris makes every one feel comfortable and welcome to really play, not just fiddle about. Lessons After a Few more visits to look at all the models, they helped me find a teacher to work on problems I'd been having. Sarah helped me for the six months during my slow time at work. she is a really good teacher for all levels of experience.

Of course I'd play any instrument I wanted whenever I'm there. They made me feel like it's my music store. Chris always wants me to play for his potential customers. I might have encouraged a few sales by demonstrating the way they sound. My piano During six months or so of stopping into my store and playing whatever I wanted they never tried to sell me anything.

You know the typical car salesman? Well, he doesn't work here. What about the creepy salesman who won't leave you alone and let you relax? You know, the one that you promise you'll be back tomorrow. He doesn't work here either. Or the salesman who wants to find out about price range, credit, and how much you've got before you've even had a chance to browse?

I didn't see that guy either. They never knew my purchasing power. And still don't. Also finally what about the salesman who puts you down to number two every time the phone rings? The front desk handles all phone calls. No, These are genuine people and they don't seem to care if they make a sale or not. They will share as much of their expertise as you care to learn and share their knowledge but they will not "sell" you a piano.

After months of educating myself and going through my decision process in my own way, they helped me buy a piano. We just made sure that I made the best decision about getting the right one. Price Price was not in itself the most important thing. I had a price range I was comfortable with of course but when I expect superb service I expect them to be able to charge what they need for their families. Chris quoted me just about every price in the store until I decided which features were worth the money to me and which were not.

Since they earned my trust by this point I never did any price shopping at all. I don't know what pianos really cost but I just know I got a great price. Other people ( again not experts) agree that I got the best price. The movers The movers were awesome. Their truck showed up within five minutes of schedule. The passenger got out of the truck the minute they got there to guide the big truck in.

He did not get back in the truck until the truck was out the driveway. When they parked the truck, my 500 pound piano was in the house within two minutes. I know this because I watched my surveillance videos and they are super efficient. It did take about twenty minutes to build the bench but that gave me an opportunity to inspect the piano while they were there.

The tuners John has come and tuned it as promised and Vincent did some adjustments. Once the piano is in your house, you commit to a permanent relationship with lane music. No telling how many pianos they are responsible for. They are the ones who care about how well they work. The owner is the one who cares about how well it plays and sounds. They care how happy you are with it because that's what makes a musician great! Scott lane owns this store and circle music.

Every time he sees me no matter who he is with or what kind of important things he is in the middle of, he stops and talks to me and makes me feel welcome and comfortable to be there. Thank you Scott thank you Chris thank you Sarah Thank you John thank you Vincent thank you Bobby thank you j.t. page You don't realize just how much I appreciate you. I'll never quit playing again.

And thank you Beethoven! 5/10/16 Vincent Van Scoy is the tech/tuner guy that Lane sent to my house. This was his 3rd or 4th visit and he works on the mechanical issues as well as the tuning. New pianos take a lot of effort to get into shape. Vincent usually spends about 1 1/2 hours and I look forward to him coming because he does an incredible job!

If Vincent didn't give a poop about my piano, he could tell me to buy a better one if I want to worry about nit picky issues. But he took the time to make it work the way I wanted which is amazing. Best of all, when I came home and tried it out, I complimented him by text. He told me he just worked on Paul Simon and Neil Young's piano and I deserved the same job they got.

I came in here because I needed some cables for my PA and effects pedals. I was quickly greeted by 2 friendly helpful staff. I told them what I wanted and they showed me what they had. They had fair prices. They are not as big as Guitar Center but they have a decent selection of several different types of instruments. If they had GC's selection they would be a superior 5. Neither one had a fretless bass. I think these guys might be partners with the School of Rock next door.

Walking into a store full of pianos, guitars, and drums can be intimidating. Somehow the muffled sounds from the various music lessons happening in soundproofed closets all around the store soothe me as I meander back toward the sheet music area to pick up a Mini Monster Book of Rock Drumming for my son's lessons at school. The staff here are so willing to help and are always equally as friendly as their customers (so come friendly).

They offer a wide selection of used and new instruments, accessories (glow-in-the-dark drumsticks for my son), private lessons, and instrument cleaning and tuning supplies. Once while waiting on my son's drum lesson, I ran into Mr. Lane himself, who was overjoyed to have my four-year-old banging on one of his pianos for sale, and welcomed her to "play" while we waited.

Competitive pricing and full service are what keep this great local music shop afloat. Call for music lesson referrals and information, or just pop in and look at all the pretty guitars on the wall. Tip: Fresh Market is extremely close if you've got half an hour to kill while your kid is in a lesson!
