Grand American Piano - #A Restoration & Sales We have a passion for the restoration of 'Golden Era pianos. For us it's a joy to see a hundred-year-old piano go from a worn, broken condition to a show piece instrument - one that looks and sounds new. Over the past two decades we have restored 100's of pianos including antique instruments from Steinway, Mason & Hamlin, Baldwin, Knabe, Sohmer, Weber, Chickering and many more.

Each instrument has its own character and challenges to bring back to its former glory. In addition to restoring baby grand and grand pianos, we also restore vintage upright and antique square grand pianos.

With over 12,000 parts in a piano, obviously every piano will need varying degrees of work. There are, however, answers that can be given for general price ranges. The piano can be broken down into three basic areas of restoration - the case, the strings and the action. The case restoration usually includes refinishing the case and bench.
THREE terms are often used when discussing restoration work on pianos: repair, reconditioning, and rebuilding. There are no precise definitions of these terms, and any particular job may contain elements of more than one of them. It's therefore vital, when having work done on your piano or when buying a piano that has been worked on, that you find out exactly what jobs have been, or will be, carried out. Generally speaking, a repair job involves fixing isolated broken parts, such as a broken hammer, a missing string, or an improperly working pedal.
Pianos featured on our site may be in original unrestored condition or currently undergoing restoration. Call for current status. Each piano will be fully restored with a craftsman approach to quality to piano restoration that includes new strings, new action, and a beautiful, hand-rubbed case finish. For pianos early in the restoration process, you have the opportunity to choose the stain color, finish, and other options.
