Erika Sayar

Owner

Erika Sayar is a professional violin maker, restorer, and cellist with over 20 years of experience. She studied at TCNJ and North Bennet Street School, specializing in high-end restorations. As director of music at Westminster Presbyterian Church and a Monmouth Symphony Orchestra member, she combines performance and craftsmanship expertise.

Sophia Lassiter

Music Academy Director

Sophia Lassiter holds a Master of Music in Violin Pedagogy and has directed youth orchestras nationwide. She developed string programs at Norfolk Christian Schools and Stetson University. As Amadeus Academy director, she oversees curriculum and teaches private/group lessons for all ages.

Judith Morse

Violin Instructor

Judith Morse, a Manhattan School of Music graduate, has over 30 years of teaching and conducting experience. She studied under Russian tradition masters and directs the Edison Symphony Orchestra. Her students have won national competitions and performed at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall.

Stephanie O'Donnell

Piano Instructor

Stephanie O'Donnell holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Temple University. She has accompanied international opera productions and teaches piano at our Sea Girt location. Her expertise includes classical and collaborative performance techniques for students of all levels.

MaryAnn Connolly

Technician

MaryAnn Connolly has managed rental fleet maintenance since 2005. She trained under master restorers Hans Nebel and Paul Weissmeyer. As a violin student and Concordia Chorale singer, she combines technical skill with firsthand musical experience to ensure rental instruments meet performance standards.

What rental plans do you offer for student instruments?

We offer Standard, Elite, 3-month trial, and school-year trial plans with optional insurance. Prices range from $34–$355 monthly, depending on instrument type and quality level.

Do you provide music lessons for adults?

Yes, Amadeus Academy offers private and group lessons for adults in violin, viola, cello, and piano at our Sea Girt and Monmouth Junction locations.

How do I determine the correct instrument size for a child?

Measure from the child's neck to palm for violins/violas. For cellos/basses, consult our sizing chart or schedule a fitting appointment with our staff.

What repair services are available for string instruments?

We provide full repair services including crack repairs, re-varnishing, and bow rehairing. Estimates are available by appointment with our master luthiers.

Can I sell my instrument through your shop?

Yes, we offer consignment sales with a 20–25% commission. Instruments must be in good repair. We also provide appraisal services to determine fair market value.

Do you deliver instruments to schools?

Yes, we offer free delivery and pickup for schools in our service areas. Contact us to schedule arrangements for your district.

I had the privilege of meeting with violin maker and musical instructor Erika Safran Sahar, who provided me with a most excellent introduction to the cello, of which I have great interest in learning how to play. First impressions can often make a difference in how you approach your calling to a discipline and art such as the study of music, and I must say that Erika's patience and guidance walking me through trying different instruments, and looking at my posture and technique whilst acquiring a comfort level with the cello, was in a word "outstanding".

So much so, that I am excited about the prospect of learning cello, and am now acquiring an instrument, and have indeed scheduled my first lesson. All in all, a truly wonderful experience. I would say that if anyone finds themselves in a situation where they are seeking answers for their musical instrument needs, the Violin Doctor, along with Erika and her associates, would be a superior choice.

Came here today to get a child-sized violin and wow! This place is magical. Everyone is so kind and you can tell they truly love the instruments. They helped us find the right size. Really happy we found this place! Thank you for a great experience!

I learned violin as an adult, but haven't played in awhile. I needed a new string a d the bows re-haired. Mary Anne was my teacher and helped me today. Everyone there is kind and professional. A nice place for lessons.

The only place to go for rentals, purchases and repairs of orchestra instruments. Professional and knowledgeable. We've rented a cello for a few years from Violin Doctor and will most likely purchase one in the near future. Erika also provides lessons for children and adults in the shop. This is a speciality shop so hours vary and appointments are recommended. The knowledge and service is worth it.

The owners are wonderful people. I have taken my violin to them for repairs and cleaning many times and have always left extremely happy with their work and the experience. The shop is really beautiful, too. Some really nice instruments hanging around.
