Foster Piano Technology Concert Piano Technician at Michigan State University College of Music. As time permits, I will still be servicing some of my customers I've worked with regularly for many years; if this is you, contact me to schedule service. Currently I am not accepting any new customers. It's been my pleasure to serve you all for more than 20 years. Thank you for visiting.

My name is Dave Foster. I have a passion for pianos. I love to play them, and I love to hear them being played. I believe everyone should have the opportunity to have that experience.

Every piano goes out of tune. There are many reasons why, but they all do. After awhile, the strings lose tention, the wood expands or contracts and tuning pins give away. So having a routine tuning will always make sure your piano stays in tune, sounding it's best. The normal tuning standard is A440.

Here is an old Wegner/Waltham upright pneumatic-player piano that had multiple cracks in the soundboard, partial frame separation, missing strings, cracked bass bridge, and a not-so friendly family of mice. The piano was past it's prime and would have cost thousands of dollars to restore. Too much money for the investment.
Maintain & Learn
Report
How often should I have my piano fully serviced? The three components of musical performance that need to be adjusted periodically are pitch, tone, and touch. Tone is maintained by voicing, and touch by servicing the piano action, called regulation. Piano tuning is the adjustment of the tuning pins so that all the strings are of the proper tension (pitch), to have the correct sounding, musical intervals.
