The von Huene Workshop, Inc. was founded in 1960 by Friedrich von Huene, a pioneer in the reproduction of historical woodwinds for over half a century. Born and raised in Germany, he emigrated to the US in 1948 and served as a flutist in the US Air Force. In 1956 he graduated from Bowdoin College (ME) and began a four year apprenticeship with the legendary flute maker Verne Q. Powell.
Many music publishers require us to subscribe to NEW ISSUES. We receive anywhere from 1-10 copies of these titles, sometimes of great interest, sometimes not so much. In some cases, these are not titles that we would normally stock (for example, a transcription for woodwind quintet, or music for trumpet & keyboard).
The von Huene Workshop was founded in 1960 by Friedrich von Huene, a pioneer in the reproduction of historical woodwinds. Throughout its long history, our workshop has built professional quality handmade instruments to the highest possible standard. Our instruments have been used in countless professional performances and recordings, and are loved by amateur players and professional soloists alike. Our instruments are generally made to order, but we frequently have a small number in stock and available for purchase.
Browse recorders by type, such as Renaissance, Baroque, or Modern; "Ergonomic", which make it easier for small hands to reach; Low recorders, to compare the larger sizes; Plastic recorders; or Von Huene instruments, made by hand in our own shop.

It is like going back in time in more ways then the recorders - old school great customer service, and encouraged me to play the instrument I came to look at (and told me how they sterilize recorders). Even after I told them it'd be a long time before I could buy anything, the friendliness continued. Also they have racketts, an obscure musical instrument I am kind of obsessed with, and starting at a price way lower than I would think. $300. Parking was easy, also FYI it is really close to NETA.

I sold a used Moeck crumhorn through the consignment program at Von Huene Workshop. The instrument was sold in about 6 months and the paiement was processed quickly. Honest and professional. I would transact with Von Huene Workshop again.

Recorder players have less choices on where to go for service. Most music stores carry strings and drums. Occasionally, they'll have band instruments and they often carry cheap plastic records, if they carry any. Here wood reigns. I was looking for a tenor and had my pick of nearly 50. I also had an older tenor repaired on the spot for less than the postage of sending it off to a shop. I can not say enough about the value here. Thanks, guys. I'll be back.

These guys are absolute professionals, knowledgeable and expert in what they do. I was not sure what instrument I wanted and they made great recommendations. I ended up purchasing a used instrument from them (Kung tenor recorder in c made from olive wood), which arrived 2 days later (!) and is an absolute dream come true. It's everything I wanted. Plays superbly. I will be sure to give Von Huene my business in the future. Buy with confidence. A+++

I am very happy with the "Moeck" hard cases for my tenors and soprano recorders, with Eric's friendly and professional help as well as with the quickness of the delivery. Ofer Bloomington, IN

Among the finest recorders in the world. Knowledgeable and kind staff. Reasonable prices for the high qualiry. Eric Haas is a Titan in the recorder community. Super smart, funny, kind, he is a teacher at workshops, a brilliant composer and arranger.

I just ordered a plastic recorder, the fourth one that I have ordered from this business. The person on the phone was incredibly rude to me. When I asked the price, he said that he would have to look in the catalog. And then he said, I guess it cost this much. He has been rude to me every time I have ordered a recorder. I will think twice before ordering again from this business. Just because you live on the East coast does not make it okay to be rude to customers. You should be ashamed of yourself treating customers like that.

If you love recorders, Van Heune has it all. It's a magical place where recorders come into being out of blocks of wood. They have an extensive supply of all different recorders, including everything from good plastic models all the way up to any wood type you can want. Patrick Von Heune takes loving care of the instruments he sells and that are brought to him for repair. The shop has an extensive sheet music department as well. All the people in the shop are very helpful.

The three recorders I have sent them for tuning and re-voicing have come back playing much better than they ever did. Patrick knows what he's doing.

Honest and outstanding staff. My Mollenhauer Alto was not worth the cost of repairs needed so Patrick and Erik helped me select an outstanding Moeck Alto. I love my new instrument!

The Von Heune Workshop makes arguably the best recorders in this country. This store has everything a recorder player needs. Lots of early music music (sheet). Lots and lots of recorders (of many different manufacturers.) in all price points. This is a *great* place.
