Have been visiting Robert Cauer for the violin repairs, purchase and trade-ins for over 10 years. They have great inventory, price ranges, and let you take home their instruments to try before you buy. They are customer friendly and fair with their pricing. Highly recommend for their workmanship and services.

Robert Cauer is, hands down, the finest stringed instrument retailer in all of Greater Los Angeles. We have been coming here for 6 years, and we couldn't have a wider selection, or a nicer experience. I recommend them wholeheartedly to anyone from a novice to a professional musician.

In 2012, I was an adult violin student shopping for a student grade violin. I was intimidated going into a shop with the reputation of the Causer shop and expected to be given curt "We don't sell those here", but when I was greeted by Jonathan, the attention I received couldn't have been been better if I'd said my budget was $50,000. I was brought to a private room and Jonathan brought in over a dozen violins (and some shoulder rests).

After playing over a dozen instruments for an hour or so, I said couldn't quite choose between the two I liked best. Jonathan left and return with a double case and sent both home with me for an extended trial. When I returned in two weeks to buy my chosen violin, Jonathan was out, , but Mr Cauer himself greeted me and spent over an hour with me ensuring I was thoroughly satisfied with my choice.

He adjusted the set-up and even changed the strings to get the tone I preferred. No rush, no pushing. His interest was in helping me find the right instrument for me; the violin then sold itself. Bottom line. I can't compliment Mr. Cauer and his staff enough for their courtesy, patience and assistance. And for an excellent value in a student level instrument that was set up perfectly. It just blew my teacher away when she heard it!

I'm a pianist, but new to the cello world, I went in to sample the difference between my student rental cello (Eastman VC80) and a "good" cello. They kindly answered all my numerous questions, and invited me into a room full of high quality intermediate cellos and let me play them all. I've gone back twice now, and have spoken with 3 different associates, all of whom were very knowledgeable.

They offer full value trade-up, so I'm planning on buying an inexpensive cello from them for now, play it a while, then appreciate the quality jump when I trade up. After the quality, classy experience I had, I was afraid of the price tag, but they offer instruments across the whole "good quality" spectrum, $1500+.

Went there to buy a violin outfit yesterday, I was very hesitant about buying a new violin but decided to go to Cauer's after I read about their trade-in policy. I made an appoint with their welcoming receptionist who asked about what I was looking for and my size. The area was a little shady but inside it was like strings galore, they had all types of violins including a single-stringed violin whose neck had to be at least two feet long, and a Hardanger fiddle.

There were all types of instruments that I had never seen before. We waited( I arrived early) at the living room-like area until they got me set up in a room with instruments to try. Mr. Cauer himself gave me some pointers one how to use the process of elimination to pick the right instrument and let me try them periodically bringing new violins. The instruments were all beautiful and a great quality.

I was very pleased with their selection. Mr. Cauer's assistant also helped me look for a new bow and were very knowledgeable about the bow and asked me for my preferences and I was pleased to find the perfect bow. They knew just what I was talking about when I asked for a heavier stiffer bow. The purchasing process was a breeze, Mr. Cauer only brought me instruments in his price range(he prefers his customers don't know the price because then they may think that only because it's more expensive it may be better for you which is not always the case).

They explained their policies, and recommended I buy insurance for my instrument. Even went as far as gifting me my case and rosin for being a first-time customer! Today I played my instrument for the first time in public at church(I am the only violinist and play by myself) everyone noticed the difference between my old instrument and my new "Marina".

I was very pleased with the shop, their customer service(everyone was so friendly and made the process so easy for me a first-time buyer by myself), and most of all their instruments, I can't keep my hands off my new instrument!
