Very relaxed and nice dealers. Just made my purchase of the Yamaha AvantGrand N1X hybrid piano. Thank you Ross and Jim! They seemed honest and open for reasonable negotiations. No hint of being sneaky or pushy to make customers feel anxious unlike other dealers I spoke with at another piano dealership. Still need to wait my piano to be delivered. Will update my review if needed.

Amazing collection of old and new pianos in a former Art Deco auto dealership. Also a venue for jazz performances!

My wife and I dropped into the awesome Piedmont Piano Company showroom in Oakland yesterday as I wanted to look at the Yamaha electric pianos. Originally I was looking for the 515 lightweight version. But as this was for the home Kevin Parr showed us what was available in a more stable arrangement and we discussed various options. He was in no way pushy and of the two I finally decided to compare he advised us to go home and think about it look up reviews etc. which I did.

I went for the Yamaha CLP745 mainly for the bluetooth connectivity but also for "better sound" & keyboard over the 735 as advised on some online YouTube reviews. Kevin actually said that it would be very hard to tell the difference in the two units regarding the keyboard so basically saying the 735 would be fine. He might well be right but in any case I went for the 745.

I checked online for prices and Piedmont were better than any I could see and that was the final price on the contract (not including Tax of course also includes bench and 5 year warranty). I just finished paying for the piano and very much am looking forward to playing it when delivered. If your looking for a piano I would not hesitate to make an appointment and visit their beautiful showroom.

They have some awesome acoustic Grand Pianos and uprights there as well as some great Yamaha electric pianos. I hope when I feel I deserve it to be able to go back and get a grand piano but I feel this Yamaha CLP745 will be just great for me, my wife, children and grandchildren for many years to come!

Not trustworthy. Very dishonest sales-ey people who do not care about customer service. I am not surprised by some of the reviews here that said they try to cheat and make extra money. I would rather go somewhere else even if I have to pay a few thousand more.

The most unreliable piano reseller. Always lie to customers. Quoted you a price. After you paid the deposit and went to make full payment and schedule piano delivery, you will be told the price quoted include some rebate. And then those rebate will never be sent to you. If you tried to contact them, they never replied your email or phone. They know the piano purchase is one time thing. And they never care about their promise and service. Each time they just made lies to you. Also very greedy. Their profit is $6k-$10k per piano at least.

I was truly impressed with our experience with Piedmont Piano Company. The whole process was simple and honest. We told them our (limited) budget and stylistic preferences, and they showed us all the used inventory that met our criteria never trying to upsell us on something more expensive or outside our budget. And even better, they were completely honest and forthcoming about the condition of each of the pianos we were considering - sharing their honest opinions about what they felt was the best value.

Before making a decision, we visited 2 other competitors in the area, and it was no contest. We received nowhere near the level of consideration, product knowledge, and friendliness that Piedmont showed us. They made it very easy to trust that we were buying a quality baby grand piano. We love it and were very pleased with the whole process from buying to delivery and soon to be tuning! Great team at Piedmont - will definitely look to them for any future piano needs.

Dishonest owner! Be aware future customers! Do not buy piano here if you wish to trade up. I purchased the brand new Yamaha piano here 16 months ago in June 2019. At the time of purchasing the owner mentioned that they have the trade-up program that I could deduct the FULL piano price I paid to the new upgrade piano anytime even after 5 years. And that was the only reason I bought piano from him in Piedmont even though their price was higher than other quotes I got from other piano stores.

Because I was planing to trade up to a baby grand piano when my kids are more advanced players. Now I am ready to trade up piano after 16 months. The new baby grand piano costs just $3000 more than my current piano. But the own said he will charge me $7000-8000 because my piano is 16 months old! He said my piano only worth $4000 to him now, even though I paid $8300 a year ago. It's totally unacceptable to me.

I argued and insisted that he has to honor the trade-up program as he promised. How could you change your words after we purchased?!Then finally, he agreed (very unwillingly ) to deduct the Full amount I paid to the new grand piano. But I would have to pay $600-800 for delivery. I am buying a new piano, why the piano does not come with free delivery?!

This was the last straw. I realized why I am trying to buy another new piano from this dishonest owner! He does not deserve any of my money. Be aware future customers, if he promise you something, you better video tape it to protect your own right. If you do not want to hassle with it then go somewhere else to buy piano.

We are on holiday from the Chicagoland area and due to flying, my 11 year old did not have her piano or keyboard. She has been practicing daily for 1200 days and wanted to continue the streak so we have been driving around the San Francisco area using music stores and public pianos. The Piedmont Piano Co. was a gem to find. The gentleman who took our call and helped us was nothing short of amazing! He was kind and welcoming and even joked with my shy daughter. Such a lovely gentleman and establishment. Thanks for helping us out!

One of the staff was ridiculously rude. My experience of renting a piano here is extremely unpleasant. I don't typically write reviews but I decided to create an account just for reviewing this place. Other staff are all friendly (but that general manager).

What an enjoyable shopping experience. Low pressure, super friendly, knowledgeable people. The salespersons don't rely on commissions so they allow you to browse at leisure until YOU have questions. They obviously love what they do.

I purchased a pre-owned Steinway upright piano from Jim Callahan at Piedmont Piano in fall 2018. The piano played well in the store, and it was the type I was seeking and a good price, so I purchased it. As part of the deal, Jim gave me credit for my old upright Steinway piano (1880-something model) that had been in my family for generations and which I was quite attached to.

He also offered free delivery and free tuning for the new piano, and free removal of the old piano. We arranged for the new piano to be delivered in about a week. The delivery crew were professional and handled both my old piano's exit and my new piano's installation with utmost care. Once the new piano was set up and we started playing it, we noticed that some of the notes were sticky. This, we were told, would be addressed by the piano tuner (Michael Callahan, Jim's brother), who would come a few weeks later.

When Michael came to tune the piano, he was alarmed to notice that the piano's spring board (a long piece of wood with springs that touch each key) contained many broken springs, or springs that were about to break. He opined that the piano would play much better (be more responsive) if the springs were replaced -- which would be a very time consuming task. Michael offered to rebuild the springboard with all new springs and felt and come back to put it back into my new piano.

Two weeks later, he came back and did just that, and the piano plays as though it is right out of the Steinway factory! Michael said that it took him at least six hours to replace the springs, which is in addition to the other two visits in which he tuned the piano and diagnosed the problem. All told, he probably spent about nine hours working on my piano.

This anecdote demonstrates the excellence in everything that Piedmont Piano and the Callahan brothers do: from offering a fine selection of pianos at all price ranges, to superb customer care and skilled technical tuning and repair service. In addition, they stand by their products and go the extra mile to ensure that customers are satisfied with their purchases.

I will call Michael again in a year or so when my piano requires its yearly tuning. Thank you, Callahans and Piedmont Piano, for selling me a wonderful instrument that I hope will remain in my family for generations!

Our wedding venue didn't allow amplified music outside, so we were in desperate need of a 'real' piano (not a keyboard) for the ceremony. After going through tons and tons of other places, Piedmont Piano really came through and saved the day for us. They were helpful, great with logistics, and very reasonably priced. THANK YOU to Piedmont Piano for making it so that our friend could play a beautiful piano rendition of our song for our wedding!

This review is years overdue. I wanted my own piano as an adult instead of our family's piano (besides, my niece and nephew started lessons on it.) I had zero experience buying a piano since the last time I was in the market, I was 8 years old and not exactly paying for it myself. I was naturally intimidated because I was super out of practice and a little overwhelmed with the selection. Piedmont Piano Company and its staff made me feel at ease.

They let me try out several pianos without hovering over me. There was no hardcore salesmanship at all. When I purchased my Yamaha, the entire experience was magic. Days later, they delivered my new piano and I have been loving it ever since!

I was shopping around and looking to buy a brand new Yamaha piano for myself and my child. I did my research and went to all the official Yamaha dealers listed on Yamaha's website, and Piedmont Piano Company was my final stop. I am very happy with their honesty, friendly service, and the best price I got among all the Yamaha dealers! I purchased a white Yamaha GC1M from them, and we are very happy with our purchase!

Shopping Background: Before going throght this process, I have never bought a piano before. I got my aunt's old Yamaha U3 in Taiwan when I was 5, and I have stopped playing piano after entering junior high school. Shopping for pianos at other places: I went to stores in San Jose, San Francisco, San Mateo and more. What shock me was that most of the piano dealers from these stores were so much like car dealers!

Lots of sales talk that made me wonder was I shopping for a car or a musical instrument? I didn't like the impression they gave me even though most of them were pretty friendly. What was different at Piedmont Piano Company: The sales people here were not pushy at all. No artificial sales talk like "you should add this feature!" or "oh this was the best selling model." Just very patient and knowledgeble people.

Later on I learned that the sales people at this store DO NOT work by comissions. One of my issues was the model that I originally looked for was not in stock, and the wait time for is ONE YEAR! Other sales at other stores were just trying to convince me to buy something else, but Ross, from this store, was the only person who asked me "what are you going to play while you are waiting for your piano?" Then he offered me a free loaner piano service after he learned that I currently don' have a piano.

That gave me an impression that the people here are real piano / music lovers. They don't sell piano like selling cars! (Sorry I have no offense to good car dealers lol Of course there are nice and honest car salesmen out there too. Just in general we know how they are like). Decision: I went home and slept on the ideas. Then I re-arranged my furnitures and found out I have the space to get a bigger piano (which was in stock, no need to wait for a year).

I called all the Yamaha dealers that I've visited and ask them for the availability and price. Jim, the owner of Piedmont Piano Company, promtly called all the resources he had and got me a brand new white grand piano! Best of all, he gave me the BEST price! A price that all other dealers cannot beat because they still charge by comission! I went back to the store the next day, and Ross helped me with all the paperworks & payment.

He even gave me a small gift which match my interior perfectly. Arrival of the piano: The delivery was done through a 3rd party that they arranged for me. They were on time and FAST! The piano was professionally delivered and assembled at my house. Whole process was done within 15 min. Buttom line: If you are looking to buy a new Yamaha piano, buy from them. Very good price and great, authentic service! My child and I love our new piano!

We stopped by just after the weekly Sunday performance had started. We were ushered in and helped, despite coming in at quite possibly the worst time. This place is a true gem and run by helpful and warm folks. The general manager helped discuss our needs and was quick to show us pianos in our range. Very helpful and knowledgeable. We stopped by to compare a private party piano that we are considering purchasing. They had no problem showing us a comparable model and even shared their movers. When we are the market for something nicer, this is the first place to visit!

Piedmont Piano has a huge selection of nice used pianos at reasonable prices. Choosing just the right one is a pleasure, thanks to really helpful and knowledgeable staff. I didn't feel rushed at all before making my choice, and once I had decided on one it was just days before the piano was delivered. A few days later, they came to tune it, free.

Two months later I called in with questions about a few keys that didn't seem quite right, and they sent someone who devoted half an afternoon to fixing the problem, completely retuning it and making lots of other adjustments in the process, all under warranty. I'm really glad to have bought my used piano from this place rather than from a dealer on the web, and I'm very happy that Oakland has a piano store with the professionalism that I found at Piedmont Piano.

I was in the area and decided to walk in because this store caught my eye. I didn't stay very long because they were getting ready to start a concert, but they have a great selection of new and used pianos in all price ranges. They don't carry junk and there is literally something for everyone. From an entry level upright to a Bosendorfer grand, they have it.

I am thinking about a grand piano purchase, and I visited this showroom today. Absolutely spectacular. They have a giant showroom (don't miss the basement!) They have some *very* high-end instruments, and the owners were kind enough to let me play their Fazioli (among the very best pianos in the world). If my boss has the good sense to recognize my true worth and triple my salary, I think I might just buy it.

The cavernous basement has a ton of used pianos of various vintages and price ranges. They had some surprisingly nice used pianos in the basement at modest prices -- for example a C. Bechstein from 1925 which is alive and kicking (and was a joy to play on) and is not as expensive as you might think. If you're looking for uprights or digitals, they have plenty of those too -- including some quite high quality uprights (e.g. a Boston which was 15-20 years old or so) for under $5,000.

Why get a crappy "starter piano" when you can get something genuinely good here for not too much money? I'm not yet sure if I'll buy any of their instruments, but I might, and I am very glad I made the visit. The owners gave me free rein to play any of their instruments, and were extremely friendly and polite throughout. If you're shopping for pianos, seriously -- check this place out.

This is the finest piano store I've been to. It is run with more integrity and expertise than almost any establishment I've been to. Their selection is huge, ranging from rare used and new Bosendorfer, Steinway and Fazioli grand pianos to Yamaha uprights and hybrid pianos. They are extremely knowledgeable and are more than happy to answer all of your questions.

I swear if you attend a concert here you literally enter a portal into another dimension. It is a low-key, friendly & unassuming environment, yet I have seen performances that surpassed those in Carnegy Hall! I'm always surprised there are not riots or throngs fighting to get in. You don't have to envy those who saw Charlie Parking jamming in someone's living room among friends.

There are actually secret performances of that caliber happening here and you are just feet away. I guarantee it will blow your mind. Yes, it does make me feel guilty for not buying a piano.

Date: 10/24/2015 Time: 8:00 PM 64° Cloudy My sister's friend sent me a pair of tickets to attend a down home blues concert this evening. She hooked me up all right. There was no way I could, should, would turn down a freebie. I don't look at a gift horse in the mouth. Thus, my husband and I are here to watch Lady Bianca's performance.

This is my first time watching her perform live. A few people in the audience mention that I would not be disappointed. It's nice that the Piedmont Piano Company opens its door on weekend evenings for musical performances. The acoustics are excellent and Lady Bianca's performance is on point. I can hear her singing clearly - no muffled sounds.

Her backup performers on their instruments are also distinct and clear. What is great about this venue is there's no need to have a loudspeaker set up. The ambiance is comfortable and enjoyable. The only drawback is it can get a little warm with about 100 people and no air conditioning. However, the warmth did not stop me from using Lady Bianca's CD in its case holder as a fan.

My feet was tapping, hand clapping and body grooving to the rhythm of the music and singing. Parking can also be difficult in this area (San Pablo Avenue/Uptown) during the weekend. It is best to arrive at least half an hour before the start of the concert.

This is the place where you can get a vintage piano. I got some free jazz concert tix the other day. It was Diane Witherspoon's vocal concert. They played the piano worth over $250,000. The venue is not so big. It's a store after all. But if you arrive late for the show, ask the manager to add extra seats by the stage.

Aside from the obvious (pianos for sale), Piedmont Piano Company offers voice lessons, piano lessons and concerts (jazz / blues / soul). When I checked out the concert schedule I decided to get tickets for Sista Monica's Acoustic Honey performance here. I love being pleasantly surprised and last night was no exception. The experience is definitely unique; the concert takes place in the showroom with folding chairs (room for about 100 sitting).

The sets usually last 2 hours or so. There are usually free glasses of water and champagne/wine for guests (free with ticket). The performance last night was truly amazing. Catching an act like that at a small, intimate venue is quite the experience. Sista Monica quite often performs at large clubs and festivals so having the opportunity to catch her at a place like was quite the treat. The musical guests range in popularity but if you can check out a band here that piques your interest, do it.

Real professionals. These folks sell to the SF opera and symphony so they know their stuff and don't act like used car salesmen. Great selection of Yamaha electric pianos as well as acoustic pianos of various brands. Would buy from them again.
