Parks and Sons Piano Service Parks & Sons history of professional, quality service, began under Ronald G. Parks back in 1965, and the family has been in and around the piano business ever since.

Ronald, started his career with one of the most reputable and oldest firms in Spartenburg, South Carolina, where he apprenticed. Later, he would serve as a tuner-technician for one of the oldest piano sales/service companies in Boston, and then again in the Maryland and DC. area for 15 years. In his long career, he serviced pianos for major performers such as Van Clyburn, Jerry Lee Lewis, "The Carpenters", "The Boston Pops", "Mr. Roger's Neighborhood" amongst many, many others.

After nearly 10 years in the Boston area - the family relocated to Pennsylvania, where his son Richard entered the piano business, receiving training under Ronald as a tuner, as well as apprenticing under a 'PTG Certified' Rebuilder in 1998-1999. Richard gained 6-plus years experience as professional Tuner-Technician "on the road", while in Maryland, metro-DC, and West Virginia areas alongside his father for a reputable company. In 2002, Ronald started the family on their own piano tuning and repair service under the current business name - Parks & Sons Piano Service.

Today - after our loss of Ronald, the family is carrying on in the tradition of professionalism. Having relocated to the Maine area in 2005, we are continuing with our goal of providing quality work to our customers - honestly and with their best interest in mind. We strive hard to keep our fees within reasonable ranges, so as to make our services available to as many piano owners as possible.

Michael (Business Manager) has gained experience in many features of the piano Technical field, while handling the business of Advertising and Customer Service. Currently, he is learning the one aspect of the piano business in which we have lacked - "Piano Refinishing".

Did you know? A digital piano will lose approximately 40% to 50% of all it's value within the first 5 years, in contrast to an acoustical piano which will only lose about 15% of it's value over 10 years. Due to the economical conditions and other considerations, we at Parks & Sons Piano Service have decided it would be best to take a year long hiatus.
We realize that a blog filled with technical piano servicing information would appeal to only a small minority of our audience. In keeping with this idea, we will attempt to refrain from micro-detailing any particular process. We may slip once in a while in this respect, and the reader should feel completely free to let such technical details "slide by".
