Services
Legacy Music was founded in 1998 in Lees Summit, Missouri by John and Kim Ostlund. From the beginning the store has focused on the "Golden Rule" with a strong emphasis on treating others the way we wanted to be treated. Over the years, we have featured some of the finest guitars, basses and other instruments available from well know industry leaders, to small one at a time custom builders. With the goal of providing for our customers the best instrument in their price range.
Legacy Music's retail store operations are now closed and no longer offering service work. Shining Light Music's service repair department can help with any repair from a basic string change to major reconstruction on all fretted instruments. They will be glad to provide an estimate of repair charges upon examination of your instrument.
Kim Ostlund, President and Co-Owner - is the driving force behind our outstanding customer service. Kim created a music store that focused on the "Golden Rule". She is committed to helping every customer find exactly what they need and loves special orders. Kim is a graduate of Taylor Guitars University.
Legacy Music always has several very nice used instruments in stock. Or, if you are looking for something in particular, just let us know and we can let you know when the particular instrument you are looking for becomes available. Legacy Music is always looking for used, Gibson, Fender, Gretsch, Taylor, Martin and other USA made instruments.

I've bought two guitars and a ukulele from Legacy, as well as countless strings and accessories. The staff is very helpful and honest. I fell lucky to have such a high quality guitar shop in Lee's Summit. Edit - the store is closed now, sadly. The inventory was transferred to Shining Light Music, 611 SW 3rd St, Lee's Summit.

Their service was top notch. They are one of a very few Fender Authorized Service Centers in town (the big box guys amazingly are not).

I have been talking about getting a guitar for a while and found this place by accident. I came to visit at 12:30 pm on April 15th and had an odd experience. The worker (older male) followed within 4 feet of me around the entire store as if I was going to steal or something. When you are close enough to a customer to were they can feel you breathing on them, you've crossed a boundary. I'm an educated well dressed black man but felt I was being profiled like an adolescent thug. I took a business card but likely won't return.

Just went in looking for a classical acoustic guitar. I found one I liked quite a bit, then a staff member came in and said we weren't to pick up and play the intrusments, and hovered as I browsed the options. I don't know how you'll get any business when you don't let your customers try out what they're considering. Other staff members are also quite cut throat and rude. I was ready to buy that guitar until that confrontation. Odd store.

Went into Legacy the other day to check out some Taylor acoustic guitars the other day and the manager was very helpful and let me play what ever I wanted and was willing to work with me on the prices. I will def be going back in the near future

Best experience at a music shop ever. They let me test all the guitars before I made my choice and even suggested a few guitars that would fit my style!

Fabulous customer service (John, James, Ray), knowlege and competitive prices. All around best music store in the Kansas City Area! And I've been to most of them in my 40+ years as a musician. Thank you Legacy Music!

Another reviewer mentions not being able to play a guitar there? They handed me a couple thousand dollar tele and let me bust out on it so I'm unsure what he means by that. Great store.

Exceptional customer service. They treat our guitars with such care too. Wouldn't take them anywhere else.
