It was a pleasure going to Sapp violins. Feels like family from the first phone call, along the way of selection process, understanding the maintenance of instrument, taking the instruments home for a week for finalizing and to the payment and out the door. It was great talking to Mel and get her guidance. Nice people and great selection to chose from.

We are relatively new to the area; we visited the place today - our daughter needed new strings on her viola, and her high school orchestra teacher recommended it - and it was a very positive, wonderful experience! The lady-in-charge, Mel, provided her expert service, top notch customer care, lots of attention to details. The place itself has a special, warm, old-world ambiance. We will be back whenever there is any need to repair or update the instrument. Thank you very much, Mel, it was very nice meeting you!

One of, if not, THE BEST string instrument shops in the Chicagoland area. I've gone here for years for replacement strings, bow rehairs, rosin, music, shoulder rests, instrument adjustments, etc. Highly recommended for any violin, viola, cello, or string bass player.

Mr. Sapp (Greg) is an expert, attentive and a crazily knowledgeable and talented luthier. Mrs. Sapp (Mel) runs the front of the shop: she's his equal in sales and service. We're super great to have them in our community.

I am having a great experience with Sapp Violins! I'm currently renting and working toward owning a violin! Excellent customer service, very professional. Their expertise and their passion on these ornate instruments truly shine through, and they're an all around great company. I will share their company with all my friends and family.

It's simpli one of the top 10 repair shops in the world, and I kid you not. I have been to every one of the major shops in United States and in Europe and they do send him work from the top shops. I don't go anywhere else. If you need to have the best work done, this is the place. He is also quite famous in the violin restoration and violin making world. And little shop is a delight. This is a great place to buy a good student instrument. They are knowledgeable and enthusiastic for their customers.

We have been leasing a violin from this business for a few years. It amazes me when a business will treat a young child, who has never taken one lesson, the same as they might the professional musician. The individuals who run this shop work on instruments that are rare and hundreds of years old, and will stop what they are doing to help a child who needs a violin tuned. We need more businesses to treat the consumers in this manner. Thanks!

Greg and Mel are the greatest. They have helped my daughters over the years with violin, viola and cello rentals. They are very accommodating and always there to help with a tune up or string replacement. I can not say enough of their customer service, outstanding. Thank you so much.

What a wonder place to purchase or rent a violin! Very helpful and understanding when it comes to what is right for you and your family. Every time I have brought the violin in for service they have been friendly and quick about service. If you are thinking of getting a violin this is the place you need to be going to. The store also has a great selection of music to choose from! They will have one location opening soon and that will be in Batavia.

My wife is a string player, so when she had an impulse to go bow shopping, I told her of course we could go. This shop is staffed by very knowledgeable, patient, friendly people that listened to her as she explained what she wanted, and then proceeded to do a very fine job of asking questions. She was not happy with the way her violin sounded, and had the itch for a new bow, and they do have a fine selection of bows. but more on that later.

Before bows were even brought out, they inspected her instrument, and determined that her bow needed a rehair job in order to be compared fairly, and they offered that service at a reasonable price. Then they made a few quick adjustments to her violin that opened up the sound. Not day and night. but better. A new e-string. a little cleanup on the bridge. a touch up on the neck where the strings cross to the fingerboard from the pegs (don't be mean.

I play brass. I don't know all the names). Then. and only then. did they bring out a selection of a dozen bows across our price range. and my wife happily played them all a few times narrowing them down to a few she liked, with the staff delighted to answer our questions. and and stay open a little longer. In the end my wife's bow stayed there to be repaired, while she too home three bows on approval for a week. She's happy, and having fun, and I learned a bit about the magic workings of string instruments.

The shop is moving to batavia in a few weeks, and will be even closer to us, and we plan on being regulars. Good customer service is hard to come by, and so when you find it, coupled with subject matter knowledge, the store is something special.

Sapp is a wonderful shop! Their rental instruments are very high quality. Even if you are far away, renting from Sapp is worth the drive. When it's time to purchase an instrument, they always have a great selection. The customer service is second to none. If you are new to purchasing, they give you some pointers on how to evaluate instruments and/or bows, and leave you alone to take your time trying them.

There is never any pressure. If you need a bow rehaired or an instrument repaired, they do excellent, no-nonsense work. Sapp has an atmosphere of caring about the instruments and the people who play them, and everything they do is high-quality and professional.

I brought my brother's violin in for tuning and repair after asking and researching about violin shops in west suburbs. It ended up being only ten minutes walk from work. My friend who's a violin teacher and plays in a few orchestras comes here every six months to tune up his violin and borrows one to play. With his recommendations, I had high expectations going in the shop and it didn't disappoint me at all.

The lady was pleasant and knowledgeable as she tunes and fixes the violin for me. There was another girl there trying a new violin. She seems to enjoy her time and experience there. It took about 20 minutes to tune it and she had to fix a peg. She only charged me for materials not labor. I thought it was very kind and good service. I also bought a tuner and she made sure I know how to use it. I hope people would find this shop through this review and come by more often because it's great!

Mel at Sapp Violins has been a terrific help over the years. She has helped us navigate the world of string instruments, moving up to different size instruments; bows, quality strings and more. Mel takes the time to carefully explain to each renter how to care for the instrument and bow. The store stocks and Mel can sell you a small "humidifier" to keep in your case. It's a great idea to help protect your instrument in cold, dry weather. I would definitely recommend Sapp Violins for string instrument rental and purchase. Part of the rental fee is accrued towards a future purchase, which we appreciated.

We purchased a violin from Sapp that cost over $1000 because we were told by Mel the violin would only increase in value. Now, three years later, when we returned to sell the barely used instrument back to Sapp, Mel offered $350. I'd rather hang the violin on the wall than sell it to Sapp so they can turn it around and sell it to you for $1200.

What a refreshing experience I had going to this shop! Gregory and his wife are so very kind. I brought a violin that I bought on ebay and Gregory carefully looked over my violin and then respectfully told me what repairs needed to be done in order for it to be properly set up to play. Gregory was very respectful in his assessment of my violin and shared his opinion as well as options.

I appreciated so much how friendly he and his wife were to me and how respectful they were that I decided to go ahead and have the work done on my violin by Gregory. I am looking forward to bringing my violin back to their shop this coming Saturday and having Gregory work on it. In my opinion, with Gregory's experience, my violin will sing again. :) I am recommending this shop to all of my friends! :)

An amazing violin maker and repairer. My siblings and I have been here many-a-time for a tune-up or a repair. I have a friend who had him custom-make her violin. Friendly and fantastic at what he does. Recommended if you have any sort of string needs.
