I've been coming to this fantastic business for a year. This may seem like a gutsy statement, but. Fleming's is the best music store in the state of Texas. I have to give credit where credit is due. Wes does a fantastic job taking care of the music counter alongside with Elvis. And, Steven who is the head repair technician who has mastered the meticulous art on restoring and fixing super high end band woodwind and brass instruments.

As an owner of about 10 high end saxophones, I can attest that Steven performs his best services on my horns. As for the retail side of things, they only carry the best accessories and brands of instruments. As I am a dedicated saxophone player this review is biased towards their offering to my specific needs. Give these fine people an opportunity to show you their expertise and have them assist you in finding the best instrument for your money.

Helped my child get his R13 clarinet. Did test to make sure the instrument he chose was his best fit.

I stumbled upon this place and can't be more grateful. I came in to grab few things for my sisters French horn. The staff was professional and very friendly. Thank you to the stranger who blessed me today with a saxophone.

Very quick, responsive, friendly, and knowledgeable! I began with a few emails to confirm that they had the means for repairing my flute (as they appear to be mainly a brass and sax shop) and Steven usually answered within a day. Luckily my repair turned out to be very quick so I was in and out within 30 min.

Very friendly, knowledgeable staff. We have purchased and had a few repairs done there and they do an excellent job in repairing dents, dings and scratches in trumpets. Great place to try out any level of instruments.

Very knowledgeable staff! If i could give it more stars I would. Took my daughters alto sax in to get looked at after a prop hit her sax and bent one of the rods. Steve Rodriguez took a look at the sax and took care of me on the spot! Great customer service! My daughter wont have to miss practice which is awesome because marching compitition is Saturday. Thanks again Steve! -Izzy Garcia

This is a little bit late (my purchase was about a month ago) but I really wanted to share how great my experience was with this store. I bought a vintage alto sax from them on reverb.com and they were super helpful, particularly Wes who was replying to my questions. I got a great deal and the shipping was extremely fast and secure. I was very pleased to see how much effort they had gone to in order to make sure the instrument arrived in the exact same condition it was shipped at! I'm very happy with my purchase and would recommend you guys to anyone!

I had a last minute emergency and damaged my trumpet a few days before important gigs and auditions. I brought my C trumpet in and explained the situation and Chris and the awesome crew at Fleming fixed my horn on the spot. Couldn't ask for better service. Great work on horns and great people working there. Saints!

What a great experience I had once again at Fleming Musical Store. Steven and Wes provide excellent service and I can't speak highly enough for how great these guys are. I brought in a soprano saxophone which I had dropped and damaged one of my keys. Was told the instrument would be ready by later in the afternoon, which I was surprised at - thinking they would need to keep the horn all week.

But before I could even leave, after my very enjoyable Q&A session which followed, I was informed that my horn was ready. It looked brand new again by the way. I will continue to give this wonderful establishment my business easily. Thank you so much!

Oh wow! I cannot say enough good things about this store. They explained a few things to me about a flute I had received as a gift and checked it for any wear that may need to be addressed. Thankfully it was still in very good condition. We also had to have some pads replaced on my daughter's starter flute and some major work done on an Armstrong open hole flute that was given to us by a resale shop (the owner claimed it was beyond repair).

It took a couple of weeks to get parts in and the guys did find some rust damage. When we got the flutes back, I was completely floored. My daughter's beginner flute- a Geimenhardt closed hole C flute- looked polished and the tone quality was greatly improved. This is a very old flute in need of some TLC. As for the Armstrong- wow. It looks and plays like a brand new flute!

I can't believe the fantastic job they have done on it! The final price for the extensive repairs was half of what others had quoted me. Great price for amazing work. I can't thank them enough!

About a year ago had a few repairs and a thorough cleaning done on my primary French Horn (Yamaha YHR-668). The work was fantastic so also had them do a thorough cleaning on my Chamber music horn (Vintage Elkhart Conn 6D). This year took my horns in for a tune up. They had a new Yamaha YHR-671D in stock and I liked it so much I put both my old horns on Consignment with Fleming. Steven was great to work with.

Also was excited to find they had the Yamaha horn in stock and the price was better than what I could have purchased it online for. No shipping hassles and the opportunity to play before purchase. Doesn't get any better than that!

Poorly Repaired Trumpet Case The latch springs on the case were broken. Arranged to have their repair department replace the latch and lock assemblies. When I went to pickup the case the old latches had been drilled out and new latches were installed that were not even close to the same type that needed to be replaced. Very disappointed and the case is a mess. Update Correct trumpet case latches replaced the high school band style latches installed by Fleming Instrument Repair. Steven (repair shop manager) took ownership of their mistake and made the proper repairs. (Top photo is correct repair.) Thank you Steven

OLD-SCHOOL ARTISANS PROVIDING EXCELLENT VALUE & SERVICE: Even at first glance, you'll recognize Fleming Instrument Repair & Sales to be the sort of business which relies upon traditional values that are reflected in their competent, friendly, and cost-effective services & equipment. They are instrument artisans (and musicians themselves, of course) who've stayed in business year after year based on personal referrals and repeat business from serious musicians, both professional and amateur. I'm entirely unsurprised that their Google and Yelp ratings reflect a lot of customer satisfaction.

I just received back from them my Bach Stradivarius trumpet that was tarnished and dinged when I brought it to them. After reconditioning it -- with ultra-sonic cleaning, "reachable" dent work, cleaning & flushing of all valves and slides, replacement of corks & felts, greasing of slides, soldering as needed, and hand-polishing of the silver finish to a "like-new" shine -- my instrument is now in optimum condition, both visually and functionally.

I also commissioned them to convert my first-valve kick slide (the design of which I find impractically awkward) to a first-valve TRIGGER -- a moderately ambitious upgrade requiring new parts and a great deal of skill to properly install. My new trigger works perfectly, sliding my first valve slide out smoothly at a mere touch of my thumb, and I'll forever after be in better, more consistent tune on those low-register Ds and D-flats on which all trumpets and cornets tend to be naturally sharp.

And they sold me a clever new ProTec case to replace my original equipment Bach case that was literally falling apart. The grand total for all this was less than I'd expected -- not cheap, but not overpriced either, and certainly a good value overall. The staff was friendly and light-handed in their recommendations; I was glad to get, and follow, their advice.

So, I have my college piccolo that I play a couple of times a year for my alumni band with UT Austin. I haven't had a tune up in at least 27 years, and figured it was due before a performance this summer. Over the years, I thought I had lost some ability in hitting the high notes, but after I got it back today - I found out it wasn't me! The piccolo just needed some work. Thanks so much for a job well done!

I had just a great experience here. I had a very minor leak in one of my palm keys on my saxophone and they fixed it for free. It took less than five minutes and was a minor fix so probably don't expect your repairs to be free, but overall the service was so good. It really made my day! I know that this is the place to go if I ever have to get a repair again in the future!

We've had the pleasure to meet Tristan when looking for a used saxophone. We really appreciated his patience and his knowledge. Highly recommend the place and Tristan.

I bought a used trombone for my oldest son. We are very pleased with Fleming and specifically with Tristin. I was very uncomfortable making such a big purchase online (from Boston) especially since I'm not very musical myself. The trombone arrived exactly as advertised. Tristin advised us correctly about the case, was knowledgeable, helpful, very communicative and even went out of his way to ensure that my son received his hard earned present on his actual birthday.

I took in my Yamaha 684 flute for a repad recently. Steven, the manager, did an excellent job! There were a couple tiny things that I wanted tweaked, like key heights and using felt instead of cork key bumpers, which he happily fixed free of charge after the repad. Steven and the Fleming team are respectful to each individual's preferences when it comes to how an instrument is set up, and the prices here are very fair (unlike Music and Arts). Overall, excellent quality of work, attention to detail, and flexibility towards reaching client satisfaction. I will be returning to get my piccolo repadded later on.

I drove from North of the Humble area because the reviews here were so promising. I went into the shop to repair a broken water key on my trumpet and was surprised at how quickly the repair was made. I decided to get the horn completely overhauled (sonic cleaning, polishing, dent removal, etc.) and the horn was ready in about 2 days and the results are amazing.

The work they did on my horn made it look brand-new and they waived the repair fee for the original repair. I don't know if there's a better place in Houston for instrument repairs.

I had a broken valve guide on a low brass instrument. They fixed it on a short turnaround and also greased my slides, oiled my valves, and cleaned by mouthpieces as a cherry on top. My experience was that this is a great local business!

Granted I've only got a minor adjustment done. Was visiting Houston and had to perform that day. Some felts came loose on my tenor saxophone, and wanted to tweak for any minor leaks. I've had the lower stack keys on the sax adjusted multiple times, by well-known techs, and never quite played right. These guys fixed it on the spot, and I must say it plays perfect! Plus they charged very little. If I were local this would be where I'd take my horn.

Disclaimer: have so far only had minor repairs here, not yet familiar with their work in terms of restoration, overhauls, etc. I'm pretty new to Texas, just arrived in Houston at the end of summer 2010. Coming from Los Angeles, I've dealt with a good number of instrument shops, from shitty to great. First off, lemme state that Fleming is a decently small operation (not a chain like Guitar Center) and therefore when you go in, you are often working directly with the owner or at least someone emotionally invested in the business.

The first time I walked into the shop was during my lunch hour on a monday. My trumpet's (normal bach strad) spit valve someone popped loose on one side of the coil. I handed it to the kid working at the front, he took it into the back, and returned 5-10 mins later with a new spring-coil-thingy installed. I asked him how much i owed, he said don't worry about it. That shit doesn't happen everywhere.
