James Botti and James Kaplan were band directors in the Rochester Area School District who observed their students could be making greater strides with one-on-one private lessons. In November of 1958, they decided to open up a private lesson studio with a small showcase of reeds, originally named Rochester Music Studio.

As always, the crew at Brighton Music center was friendly, knowledgeable, patient, adaptive and timely. Why buy online when you can get customized recommendations from cool people? I thought I wanted an sm57 mic. But Matt was able to understand my specific need and recommend an alternative. He also got my guitar fixed up after it's been sitting in an attic for 13 years. Sounds like brand new. Can get that type of service online.

Have been a customer at the North Hills location for 3 years, two of our children rented instruments for school here. All employees are very helpful and friendly. The rental program allowed us to pay a monthly rental fee while earning credit toward a new instrument for our son. Very happy with our experiences at Brighton Music Center.

After renting from Brighton for years, we decided to purchase a violin for my daughter. Brad was very knowledgeable and friendly. He made the whole process very smooth and easy. The wheel of savings was fun and saved us some additional money!

I bought a semi-hollow Ibanez guitar in May 2022 and am happy with the experience. I also got my acoustic Yamaha in 2017 here and came back to the same store because of the good treatment. The staff was nice and professional on both occasions. I trust them for their opinion and their help.

Very knowledgeable and welcoming staff. "Cortney" (My Cort 7 ff guitar) had major wiring issues and Matt fixed it in a day and a half! That also includes taking the time to make sure my battery lasted. I will definitely be back soon!

If you need anything music or guitar related, then this is the best shop north of Pittsburgh. Can't recommend them enough and have had several guitars serviced there. Even bought a couple too. They know their stuff when it comes to repairs and maintenance, and they also are very accommodating for specific things you need like picks, string, etc.

If they don't have it, they will get it for you and if it's something you frequently need then they'll keep it in stock as often as you need it. The staff is always friendly, the owner and instrument service employees are top notch. They can answer nearly any question and are well informed on many things. Since moving to the area from another state, they have become my go-to music shop for anything I need. Always a fan of local business, and this shop certainly has what you need or at worse case can get it. Give them a try next time you need anything music related.

Excellent choice for any instrument needs. In spite of the covid supply chain issues they still maintain a really good stock of products. Their services for instrument repairs/maintenance are quality. Their employees really know their stuff, and they go out of their way to help you while avoiding charging whenever possible. Couldn't recommend them enough, if you need a new guitar or band rental/purchase then definitely stop in at Brighton Music Center.

We were interested in purchasing an instrument after many years of renting. The staff was very helpful in selecting items within our price range and arranging them for a test run. When we needed to purchase a music book for school, they were out of stock, but were able to quickly get the item in stock within a week. Love that we have access to a local business like this for our music needs.

Highly recommend supporting Brighton music Center. A good friend of mine gave me a fender Mexican precision Bass guitar that had been in his family for 20 plus years. Hardly used but had a lot of wear and tear. I took this bass guitar to Brighton music Center to resurrect it and they did just that! Matt Sabbath, who was the tech that worked on it did an absolutely amazing job bringing it back to life. Also, I've always had such positive interactions with the employees that work with their (including Matt) when talking about various accessories for my Bass guitars as well as exploring a new amp (still saving up for the last one!).

The selection at Brighton Music Center is very good, and their used and new gear is solid and reasonably priced. Their guitar tech and repair is very good too. The reason I am leaving a low rating is due to customer service. They had their guitar strings section shut down due to Covid--totally understandable. The last time I was in the store, it was open to customers.

I have a health condition (autoimmune disease) that messes with my vision sometimes. I *accidentally went into the marked off section because I did not see the small sign posted there. The man behind the counter berated me, insulted me, and embarrassed me in front of another customer. A little understanding during this time goes a long way. If a small business wants to stay in business during these times, customer service, cordial behavior, kindness and a bit of empathy is mandatory.

I will be taking my business to another small music shop. I could have bought my guitar strings online for cheaper. All I was trying to do (literally) is support my local music store.

I brought my brand new $1800 Telecaster Elite in to get set up and they scratched the finish and chipped the paint. They also didn't set my guitar up right, and I had to take it somewhere else to have it fixed because I no longer trusted Brighton to fix it without damaging it more. One thing that bothered me was that I was told by the owner that you can't really avoid scratching a guitar when restringing it.

I don't agree with this. I think that's indicative of hasty work. Plus, I have locking tuners on my guitar and so it just made for a really poor excuse. Also, they both acted like the chip in the paint magically appeared out of nowhere which was even more upsetting. They both had poor attitudes about the incident and made a lot of excuses. It stung to be treated with that amount of disrespect. Ultimately I regret bringing my guitar here.

In June I bought an alto saxophone from Brighton Music Center and could not be happier with it. Brad gave me personal service which was greatly appreciated and the price was very reasonable. They really know their stuff. I remember Brighton Music from when I was a kid and went to their store in New Brighton. Very fond memories from that time, and now that I have returned to playing sax again, I'm very happy that they are still in the area. Thanks guys. It's difficult to find a music store that isn't just into guitars and keyboards. They have it all!
