Piano tuning and repair has always been more than just a business to me. I have been a piano tuner/technician serving the greater San Jose and Santa Cruz areas for over 30 years. As a child, I loved the sound of the piano and started taking piano lessons when I was 7. I also loved to tinker with almost anything mechanical and quickly learned to appreciate the intricate workings of a piano as I would watch our family piano tuner lay out his special tools and carefully tune and adjust each of the 88 notes on the family piano.

Sticking keys - Whether the piano is new or old, sticking keys can result from a small objects falling into the piano, such as a pencils, hairpins, coins and crayons. Over the years, small objects can find their way into the piano's moving parts and can substantially degrade performance. Such objects may even break action parts that may need to be replaced or repaired.

When I moved to Los Gatos, my piano was completely out of tune due to the move and desperately in need of a tuning. Preston was great in accommodating my need to have tuning done before Christmas Holiday. After the first tuning, he came back a month later to further fine tune the piano. What a difference that extra tuning made. I have been using Preston's service all these years and will continue using his expertise in tuning my piano. I highly recommend Preston.

I recently bought a new home and moved my grand piano (Kimball) from my parents house to mine. The piano had been neglected in use and tuning for 5+ years. I wanted to get the piano ready so that my daughter could start learning to play. I was referred to Preston by a piano/harp teacher friend. She had been using his services for several years. Preston was flexible with scheduling an appointment.
When he came over, I explained the situation of the neglected piano and he took extra care to thoroughly examine the piano, since it had changed environments and hadn't had a tune up in years. I was comfortable having him in my home. He worked on the piano confidently and swiftly, while I did chores around the house. Preston finished by playing some showtunes, which sounded a thousand times better than before he tuned the piano. I am very happy with the result, and will continue to use Preston's services on a regular basis.

I'm a composer and pianist, and I've been using Preston with American Piano Service to tune my Yamaha grand piano for five years. Good piano tuners are a rare breed these days, so I was happy to find Preston. He's always been reliable and does a super job. I recommend him without reservation. My piano does too.
